Tonya Hope is the Public Relations Manager for the San Antonio Airport System, one of the  top mid-sized airports in the country.

In her job, Hope is responsible for the panning and conducting of media and community relations programs designed to create and maintain a favorable public image of the San Antonio International Airport, Stinson Municipal Airport and the City of San Antonio through various communications media.

She is responsible for working with local, regional, national, international and trade media to promote the San Antonio Airport System as a thriving economic force. She creates press releases, coordinates press release distribution, appears on morning and daytime television and radio shows, pitches story ideas to reporters, assignments editors and producers. Other responsibilities include  coordinating and managing media at special events.

Hope also works with airline station managers to distribute airport information and to promote their events and is also leads the airport’s crisis communication and serves as the Public Information Officer or Media Liaison during emergency situations and oversees the advertising agency with guidance on all public relations efforts.

Hope worked at the San Antonio Convention Visitors Bureau, today known as Visit San Antonio as the Media Relations Manager for 15 years. Her responsibilities included promoting the City of San Antonio to travelers around the world with focus on the UK, Canada and Germany. She also worked with culinary, sports and features reporters.

Before that, Hope worked 12 years in journalism as a television producer at WOAI-TV with positions as associate news producer, senior daytime producer and weekend producer. Hope was one of the creators of Four San Antonio Living . She’s also worked as a radio producer and reporter and as a newspaper reporter.

Her achievements include several journalism and public relations awards. She holds a bachelor’s degree in communications from Texas Lutheran University. Hope is also a graduate of the City of San Antonio’s Women in Leadership program and the Management Development Institute.

She is a member of the Public Relations Society of America-San Antonio Chapter, National Public Relations Society, National Association of Black Journalists, National Association of Black Journalists Media Related Task Force,  the San Antonio Association of Black Journalists & Media Communications Professionals and Airports Council International -North America Marketing and Communications Task Force.
