Message From the President

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

Our AMAC members make us proud. They are individuals, airports, small businesses, major corporations, private and governmental organizations dedicated to improving the quality of life for all Americans by diversity inclusion and cultural sensitivity.

We want to celebrate their successes regularly so we are introducing new feature sections to our Connections E-newsletter. This week we introduce our Member Spotlight section and tell the story of Diane Dolman, a dynamic woman who has built a multimillion dollar business. You'll read new stories about our members in each issue.

In our next Connections issue, August 3rd, we will introduce our Foundation Focus. The AMAC Foundation offers scholarships; internships and mentoring programs that help prepare our youth for careers in the airport industry. You will meet Joshua Montgomery, an AMAC intern who was recently a featured speaker on a USDOT Youth Transportation Initiative Webinar. In future issues we will regularly share stories about Foundation programs and individuals in this new section.

When you join AMAC, you instantly gain access to an elite pool of resources, exclusive discounts, business opportunities and tailored educational information. Become a new member today, or refer a friend or colleague to join the movement!

Promote. Prepare. Advocate. Engage.

Let's do it together,
Shelby M. Scales
President and CEO

headshot_diane_dalmanSpotlight on AMAC Member Diane Dalmans

Airport Minority Advisory Council (AMAC) member Diane Dalman, president of Construction Recruiters America Staffing, Inc. (, is a petite dynamo. Fueled by determination, market savvy, charm and integrity, she has built a multi-million dollar enterprise from scratch in less than 10 years.

Her national skilled trade staffing agency provides licensed/unlicensed journeyman electricians, millwrights, mechanical semi-skilled, baggage un-jammers/testers and warehouse personnel to long-term projects or for temporary work.

"I started by helping to staff one construction project building baggage conveyor systems at Sky Harbor Airport in Phoenix, Arizona," she recalls.

After working for a staffing agency for several years, Dalman stepped out on her own in 2005. "It was frightening," she admits, "but I was determined to provide jobs for carefully vetted workers who would put money back into their community."

"I wanted them to be able to feed their families with jobs close to home," she adds.

For the next ten years Dalman traveled all over the country growing her business. She visits worksites regularly to be sure that things are going smoothly. "I always bring pizza and chocolate chip cookies to the sites," the 5'3' blonde says with a smile. "The workers appreciate that. They call me 'Boss Lady'."

Her company is DBE/WBE certified in 37 markets, and she credits AMAC with helping her network with major airport contractors at the numerous conferences and events the organization sponsors. "The AMAC "Meet and Greets" were extremely valuable in putting me in contact with companies eager to do business with DBEs," she says.

In 2005 her company brought in $259,000, she says. That number has grown to an expected $5.6 million by the end of 2015. "And the business is completely run by women," she says proudly.

In addition to work at more than 24 airports across the United States, her client list now includes UPS, FedEx, Zulilly, Amazon, Pepsi, Tropicana and Urban Outfitters, among others.

Boise Airport concessions highlight local flavor

New concessions that highlight local flavor are open for business at the Boise Airport. Boise Mayor Dave Bieter recently cut the ribbon to celebrate the remodeling of restaurants and gift shops in the terminal. Local businesses with a presence there now include Parilla Grill, 13th Street Pub and Grill, Bardenay, the Boise Co-op and Big City Coffee. Gift shops bear The Idaho Statesman, Greenbelt magazine and The River radio station brand names. Bieter says it's part of an effort to extend a sense of place throughout the city. "It's rare to have the kind of local flavor we're going to have from now on in an airport." said Bieter. Bieter also says the airport will have local musicians perform in the terminal. Read more.
