Shannetta R. Griffin, P.E. is the Senior Director of Planning and Development for the Indianapolis Airport Authority. Ms. Griffin is responsible for planning, engineering, environment & sustainability, construction management, supplier diversity and information management for Indianapolis International Airport and 5 regional airports. She oversees the implementation of all projects associated with the capital improvement and operation budgets. In her 30 year aviation career, Ms. Griffin has developed experience in many areas of transportation engineering, planning and design and business development, which include aviation applications such as runways, taxiways, aprons, roadways, terminal planning, and environmental engineering. Projects in which she has managed and been involved include program management; master planning, construction administration, airside design, storm and sanitary sewer design, deicing, storm water management and permitting.
Born in Berkley, California, Ms. Griffin received her formal education from the University of Toledo and was the first African American woman to graduate from the college of Civil Engineering and second African American Women in the entire engineering college. Her professional expertise won her the award of Outstanding Alumni Civil Engineer for the University of Toledo, College of Engineering, the 2016 Airport Minority Advisory Council Women of Influence Award, and most recently, the 2017 Center for Leadership Development Achievement in Business and Industry Award. She currently serves as the Chair of the Business Diversity Committee for Airports Council International North America.
She finds her reward by giving back to aspiring young engineers through career days, college recruiting, motivational speaking, and volunteer activities. She is also a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
