United Airlines May Be Poised to Drop One of its Hubs

The Motley Fool

Adam Levine-Weinberg

There's a growing contradiction at United Continental:

On the one hand, the United Airlines parent company has maintained its commitment to capacity discipline. In the face of weak unit revenue trends, United is holding domestic capacity growth below 2% this year. On the other hand, the company admitted last month that domestic capacity cuts have caused United to lose market share in its hubs over the past five years. It believes this has hurt its unit revenue.

OHM Concession and The Conley Financial Group
Donate to AMAC Foundation

Milan Patel and Kathy Conley

A shared commitment to support young people interested in careers in the airport industry has partnered The Conley Financial Group and OHM Concession Group in a new AMAC affinity program scholarship fund. The two companies recently made an $850 donation to the AMAC Foundation.

“We expect this donation to be the first of many,” says Kathy Conley-Jones, LUTCF, enthusiastically. Conley-Jones is head of the St. Louis, MO-based The Conley Financial Group, a nationally certified MBE and WBE firm offering multi-line insurance and financial services. Her company provides clients with group employment benefits, commercial insurance, personal lines, life insurance and travel protection programs.

Conley-Jones conceived the AMAC Insurance Benefit Program 2013 after meeting AMAC members who attended that year’s conference in St. Louis. “These intrepid members came to our city on the heels of a big tornado that had created havoc here,” she recalled. “I was a broker for the St. Louis Airport at the time and a member of the conference welcome committee. I was impressed by the group and I wanted to do something to help out.”

She worked with AMAC leadership and her insurance partners – CHUBB, Colonial Life and Nationwide, she notes -- to create an affinity program which gives discounts on their products to AMAC members. The program was announced at the 2014 AMAC Airport Business Diversity Conference in Denver.

“Our goal was to create a program that would generate AMAC membership, heighten name recognition for the organization, assist AMAC business members with their insurance costs and ultimately return a portion of those savings back to the community through a scholarship fund,” she says.

Milan Patel of OHM Concession Group was one of the first to sign up for the program. OHM, founded in 1997, has grown to become one of the most respected ACDBE non-traditional concession operations company in the industry. With 18 different food service concepts in 11 airports across the U.S., the business was honored this year with the Airport Revenue News (ARN) Award for Best DBE Business.

In presenting the scholarship award to the Foundation, Patel and Conley-Jones noted, “what AMAC is doing is so important, we are pleased to be able to spearhead this AMAC affinity benefits program to support AMAC’s scholarship initiative.”
