The Airport Minority Advisory Council Educational and Scholarship Program, Inc. (AMACESP) is the sister organization of the Airport Minority Advisory Council (AMAC). AMAC is one of the largest airport/business trade associations that effectively participates in advocacy, outreach, education and other activities on behalf of its members. Its mission is to foster and promote equal opportunity for minorities, women and disadvantaged businesses to participate in aviation-related business, contracting and employment opportunities, while supporting the mission of airports. In 1997, the AMAC Board of Directors established the AMACESP, a 501 (c)(3) not-for-profit organization, to offer charitable, literary and educational programs to benefit future aviation professionals and the general public.
AMACESP is governed by a 25-member volunteer Board of Directors and has two part- time employees. Each director is an aviation professional either employed in or doing business with the aviation industry.
The mission of the Airport Minority Advisory Council Educational and Scholarship Program, Inc. (AMACESP) is to develop educational programs and information designed to substantially increase the nationwide pool of future aviation professionals, particularly minorities and women, and to contribute to the public’s understanding of the aviation industry. AMACESP accomplishes its mission by offering scholarships; conducting educational forums, seminars, and research; and educating the general public on air transportation, airports, airport operations and facilities management.
AMACESP and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) annually sponsor one of the preeminent aviation industry educational programs in the country, known as the Annual Airport Business Diversity Conference. This forum brings together businesses, aviation professionals, government officials and individuals from around the country to discuss a variety of subjects ranging from how to do business at airports to public policy issues impacting the entire aviation industry.
Through its Scholarship Program, AMACESP emphasizes education and outreach to full-time college students interested in pursuing aviation careers. In conjunction with the Annual Conference, a silent auction and a golf tournament are held to raise money for the AMACESP Scholarship Fund. The generous contributions of airports, businesses, and individuals have enabled AMACESP to sponsor college students to participate in the Annual Airport Business Diversity Conference and to award over $200,000 in scholarships. These scholarship awards and educational programs provide unique opportunities for college students to network with aviation professionals from around the country and to learn about the aviation industry’s important role in the economic growth of our communities. As a result, they have a better understanding of the broad range of careers and business opportunities available at airports, with airlines, in the federal government, and in the private sector all associated with this exciting industry.
Attracting supportive individuals, aviation entities, businesses, philanthropic organizations and others to join in our efforts will help AMACESP create and expand educational programs and continue to promote the development of our next generation of aviation leaders.
