The 30th Anniversary Regional Forum and Gala held in Atlanta Georgia on October 3rd, was a great success thanks in part to the partnership and cooperation of the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport staff who worked tirelessly to make the event one for the books. The conference was opened by Miguel Southwell, the Aviation General Manager of HJAIA. Mr. Southwell was ever-present throughout the day’s event and the attendees were buoyed by his attendance.

There were several sessions that the attendees flocked to, the ‘Successfully Navigating the Procurement Process’ featuring Adam Smith, the Chief Procurement Officer of the City of Atlanta, the ‘Jackson Approach to Policy’ session, and the DBE and ACDBE Contracting Sessions. Students from the Benjamin E. Mays, Tri-Cities, Maynard Jackson D.M. Therrell, and Frederick Douglas high schools attended the Regional Forum as part of AMAC’s Project LIFT program outreach. The young men and women were selected by the administrators of the program for their aspiration to seek careers in the airport industry.

After the conclusion of the day-long Regional event, the evening’s Gala event took the center stage. A Who’s Who of Atlanta’s elite came out in their glamorous best to celebrate and commemorate with their regional compatriots. Ambassador Andrew Young, Mayor Kaseem Reid, and Valerie Jackson- the widow of former Mayor Maynard Jackson, spoke at the event lauding the efforts of organizations such as the Airport Minority Advisory Council in promoting the progress of small and disadvantaged businesses.

The event was also used to unveil a video in tribute to former Atlanta Mayor Maynard Jackson and his unwavering support of the DBE communities in the Atlanta area.
